Salix Slinger (from the latin word for willow, and the Dutch word for garland)
is a project featuring community art in nature in Leiden.
It was initiated by Ludy Feyen, a visual artist who works in nature and
invites local people to participate in creating art works on-site.
Together with storyteller Michèl de Bakker, felt artist Petra van den Berg
and composer Huub de Vriend, she works towards the realization of her
dream of a multidisciplinary community art creation. This includes
construction work in willow , felt, earth, metal and other materials,
exploring stories and natural sounds, all culminating in the performance
during Midsummer's Eve, June 21, starting at 9.30 PM.
(final public repetition June 19, try-out June 20).
Tickets: € 12.50 euro / under 16: € 7.50
Salix Slinger receives subsidies from several Dutch national, regional
and local cultural funds, and has a partnership with Portaal, a housing
corporation with large housing estates in Leiden.
Participants in Salix Slinger include teams from the municipal authority,
local charities, primary school classes, inhabitants from the Portaal
estates, local business, youth groups.
